A Message from Melissa about 2020’s Teacher Training

As many of you know, this year has brought and is continuing to bring a lot of big changes changes for me: getting married, starting back to graduate school out of state, and some new professional personal projects around town. After a lot of reflection and conversation with my beloved co-teacher…

Jasper and I have decided to NOT offer a 200-hour yoga teacher training program in 2020.

This decision wasn’t made lightly. This training has been one of the biggest parts of my life for over six years, and leading it has been profoundly satisfying and life-changing. I’ve had the honor of training over 100 yoga teachers who are doing amazing things in Birmingham and beyond. I’ve had to grieve letting go of my beloved program and all the goodness it brings to my life.

This decision is not permanent or final. Jasper and I are thinking of this as a step back — a pause to reflect, reimagine, and retool our yoga training offerings. It’s very possible we’ll offer a 200-hour training in the future, likely with an expanded faculty to share the workload of training new yoga teachers. We’re also looking ahead to the possibility of a 300-hour program to offer what Jasper so eloquently calls “higher spiritual education” to those already offering yoga in our communities.

As we let go of this chapter in Sacred Glow’s history, I want to thank Annie Damsky for giving us a loving home at Villager for six beautiful years. We couldn’t have asked for a better, easier, more supportive relationship with a studio. We will miss occupying that space and making memories there.

I also want to thank all of the amazing yogis who have trusted us with their training in the last six years. Your presence has been a gift to us since day one. We’re so excited to keep supporting you in your future endeavors.

My sincerest apologies to anyone who was eager to join us for a teacher training in 2020. We hope you can understand why we need this time to reset and hope you’ll join us for a class or program in the future.

We can’t wait to see what’s next!

With much love and gratitude,

Melissa

Information about the 2019 training…

Sacred Glow’s 200-hour yoga teacher training is unlike any other in the Southeast. We focus on finding the unique teacher within you. No cookie-cutter graduates here. Our mission is to find your authentic voice, style, and approach to sharing yoga with others.

Based on the cutting-edge anatomy research of Tom Myers and Leslie Kaminoff, we break down yoga poses and sequencing to make the practice accessible to all bodies. You’ll learn how to build deep strength from the inside out and teach a practice that empowers your students.

Along the way, you’ll deepen your own self-knowledge and understanding. You’ll explore the philosophical roots of yoga and how they apply to modern life. And most powerfully, you’ll discover your authentic Core Message, which is your mission statement for your teaching and your life.
